Heartbreak for world football
There are a few athletes who leave a mark that transcends sport. They create moments which give you that fuzzy feeling inside. These are people who are not just mere athletes; they are role models and idols who inspire generations.
You have regular players, and then you have people who lift a sport globally and inspiring millions. You think of the greats like Michael Jordan, Pele, Messi, Ronaldo, Michael Phelps, Usain Bolt and of course Diego Armando Maradona.
If you ask your father or grandfather – who is the greatest footballer of all time? You will certainly find Maradona in the conversation. He was the first true ‘football superstar’. He transcended the sport, a truly global superstar.
Shock waves were sent across the world of football yesterday after Don Diego left us with just memories of his brilliance. He was 60 years old.
The world bows down to the king
Diego Maradona created some of the most iconic moments in the history of football. The ‘Hand of God’ and the goal of the century against England or the iconic image of him leading Argentina to the World Cup. He was a truly magical player.
Although he is gone, he will never be forgotten.
Condolences and heartfelt messages showered from all across the world for one of the kings of the sport.
As Pele beautifully put it ” I hope one day we can play football together in the skies.” The world of football will miss one of its greatest players.
In our hearts
Maradona was a gift from the footballing gods. All the way from Buenos Aires to Naples to Barcelona he left his mark wherever he went.
All you have to do is watch a highlights reel of him on Youtube to see what a special player he was. He was controversial, unfiltered, and true.
Although many of us did not have the privilege to watch him live, you just know that he was special. He was a once in a lifetime player.
So, it comes as no surprise that the whole football world paid its tributes last night during the champions league. Further clubs all across Europe and the world poured in their praises.
We could talk about ‘interesting’ Maradona stories for hours, however now it’s time we celebrate the football of one of the greatest.
